Sathabhisa – The Empty Circle
Sathabhisa (6.40-20.00 Aquarius) is governed by Varuna, the God of the Cosmic Waters. Also called the ‘veiling star’, Sathabhisa stands for the betterment of the human state, ruled by the node of Rahu. In fact, Sathabhisa forms the climactic state of Rahu’s functioning.
The spelling is also Sathabhisak, which implies ‘a hundred physicians’ or ‘a hundred medicines’ or ‘made of a hundred healers’. Alternatively, the other term for Sathabhisa is Shatataraka or ‘a hundred stars’, as the astrologers saw the constellation as comprised of hundred stars.
The single and most important aspect that separates Sathabhisa from other nakshatras is secrecy, although there are other nakshatras like Anuradha, Purvashadha and Jyestha can be secretive too. In fact, Sathabhisa derives its life force from the power of concealment. This asterism seeks that which is hidden and gains power from it, just as there are lots of things hidden in the chest of the ocean. Sathabhisa is concerned with the electronic media which is based on deception and secretiveness.
With a suspicious perspective, Sathabhisa takes time to acclimatize itself to situations, although this makes them stay on guard, and being highly secretive, others often find it difficult to approach them. This makes Sathabhisa natives reclusive to a good extent. They are also introverts and eccentric. Solving puzzles and uncovering truths come easily to them. To get to the heart of things, Sathabhisa takes on an unflinching and silent stance. Often, they blurt the unpleasant truth at inopportune moments.
Frank speech may at times hinder achievement for Sathabhisa. A strong influence of this constellation makes them lack education in their childhood. They have their own set of rules to follow and their coldness entirely suppresses their emotions. Sathabhisa marks the culminating energy of the element of air which makes them core intellectuals and philosophers.
Lack of traditional charm and beauty however hardly robs the appeal of Sathabhisa that has a shy disposition with a tendency to explode frequently. They are vulnerable, enterprising and moderate. ‘Bheshaja shakti’ or ‘power to heal’ embodies the call of this nakshatra.
Padas or Quarters
The first pada falls on the Sagittarius
Navamsa which is ruled by Jupiter. Natives are easy going, optimistic and
philanthropic with a chance to get carried away easily. They can madly espouse a
cause and pursue it.
The second pada falls on the Capricorn
Navamsa which is ruled by Saturn. It is more practical and organized which affects
the material activities, although there can be too much of ambition.
The third pada falls on the
Aquarius Navamsa which is ruled by Saturn. Natives here are futuristic, philosophical
and visionary, although they can get too eccentric and violent. Planets are good
in the material aspect being a vargottama pada.
The fourth pada falls on the
Pisces Navamsa which is ruled by Jupiter. It is hallucinatory and expansive,
providing compassion and healing. Afflicted planets can make the person too
ambiguous. The natives can often get addicted to intoxication. Professions
requiring imagination like film and ad making are good.

Sathabhisa natives should worship Lord Shiva and chant the root mantra “Om Lam” 108 times during the lunar transition of this nakshatra to alleviate afflictions. Wearing electric colors and neon blue is also recommended. All important actions should correspond to the course of this constellation for best results.
In the words of Varahamihira, the lunar influence gives Sathabhisa harsh and cruel speech. Independence in thought often makes them act without regarding its consequences. Rock star Elvis Presley is a typical Sathabhisa native.
